More About Me

Writing is bricklaying.

When I was coming up in the newsroom of a Connecticut alt-weekly, I had romantic ideas about being a writer.

I still do! But a nearby reporter gave me a speech almost every budding journalist and aspiring writer hears eventually: Writing isn’t a sacred pursuit. It isn’t an ordainment or a miracle. Waiting for muses will leave you empty-handed and blank-paged. Writing is a job, a trade. It’s plumbing, it’s truck-driving. It’s bricklaying.

I take that very seriously.  TKKTKT
