Make it stand out.
I've been an editor for more than 20 years, working across journalism, strategic communications, theater, and podcasting. I spent 15 years as a reporter and editor at regional newspapers and magazines, where I learned to find the story, cut the excess, and meet (seriously) impossible deadlines. I've created high-stakes communications materials for Fortune 500 companies, which taught me how to distill complex ideas into compelling narratives. I've worked as a dramaturg, helping playwrights develop their work, and I currently produce the podcast What Rough Beast with Virginia Heffernan, where we explore philosophy and social movements.
All of that experience has taught me the same fundamental truth: good editing is about structure, clarity, and care. It's about understanding what a story is trying to do and helping it do that more effectively.
I work with authors who care about craft—who want their books to be as strong as they can be. I bring rigor, curiosity, and two decades of editorial judgment to every project. I'm direct but never dismissive. I'll push you to make your work better, and I'll also tell you what's already working.
I'm based in Brooklyn and work with authors everywhere.
Some other things I've done:
Produced and co-hosted What Rough Beast, a podcast exploring extremism and social movements
Worked as a dramaturg with emerging playwrights
Provided editorial strategy and social media consultation for author Jessie Janowitz
Facilitated workshops and strategic planning sessions using human-centered design principles
Published work in Wired, HuffPost, and other outlets
Maintained a Substack called Magic + Loss with a daily resistance column
When I'm not editing, I'm reading or listening to books, doing puzzles, and hanging out with my cat, Margaret.
